Misc - Google Street

For those of you don't get out much ... there has been a pretty cool feature added to Google Maps. Not sure how long its been around, but I think it launched late 2007 or early 2008. Anyway... So we know there are free maps online, MapQuest, YahooMaps, etc but Google took it to the next level. They hired some folks to drive around and take pictures, yes 100's, 1000's ,????'s I have no idea, but its really cool. Not only can you get a good idea where something is now-a-days, but you might be able to even get a street view of it.

So here is a tutorial on Google Street View from Google themselves.

But why not take it a step further and show you the neighborhood?...

First step, go to Google Maps and enter in your address or what I did - woodlawn pool, raleigh, nc Google Maps - Search Click Search.

Then tell Google that you want street view enabled by clicking the "Street View" button on the top of the map.

Now get rid of that pesky bubble in the map by clicking the 'X' and using the zoom feature to zoom in.

Once you are happy with the zoom, you can click and drag the map where ever you want until you find what you are looking for. I will go to my house.

You can click anywhere the street is highlighted blue... then you can also click and drag the picture around, up, down, click on the arrows in the picture to move down the street...
Google Maps - my house...is my wife home?!?!?!?
I dragged the image and turned it 180 degrees to see my neighbors house ... Hi Mike and Shawn!
Google Maps - my neighbors... they are home too!?!?!?!
So this is nothing fancy... but its pretty cool. Almost all the major cities have this feature... I suppose other countries as well, but I will leave that exploration up to you. Enjoy - W.M.
