CLOSING i-neighbors.org group! |
|
|
Earlier this month, the i-neighbors.org site went though some changes. Those changes were not only cosmetic but also functional.
The biggest change that I am against is the way that they are using group emails. Before we used to be able to send an email to
Woodlawn27617@i-neighbors.org and it would go to everyone in our group. Now you can no longer simply send an email, you have to
log in and create a ‘discussion’ and submit it to become an email …. too complicated for its worth!!! So I propose that I manage the email group by using an alias via our website … something like neighborhood@woodlawnhoa.org (I am open to suggestions). That way I still control membership but I don’t have to be involved to have emails sent out, I can set it up automatically just like before, and there is no other website needed. This is the official 30+ day notice. As of 10.31.2009, I am going to close the i-neighbors.org account and use my way. You have to trust me on this, it will work. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO? You need to send me your email address again – sorry. Send it to webmaster@woodlawnhoa.org and I will begin adding your address to the woodlawnhoa.org address. I will also update the website with all this information as I consolidate it and send out reminders as this change finalizes. As always, if you have any questions about this or are confused, I apologize and I will do whatever it takes to help you understand why I am changing this. |

Community Watch - i-neighbors.org |
|
i-neighbors is a social networking service that connects residents of geographic
neighborhoods. Unlike websites that encourage global, national, or city-wide
communication, i-neighbors links members of local neighborhoods as defined by
the people that create them. i-neighbors helps individuals, communities, and
homeowner's associations build social capital by providing a place for neighbors
to find each other, organize, share information and work together to address
local problems. Our goal is to help people create neighborhoods that are safer,
better informed, more trusting, and better equipped to deal with local issues.
Founded in 2004 as a not-for-profit, advertising, and SPAM free service, i-neighbors
now supports thousands of neighborhoods in all 50 of the United States and all
10 Canadian provinces. i-neighbors is operated as an ongoing experiment in community
building by a team of faculty and students headed by
Prof. Keith Hampton at the
Annenberg School for Communication
at the University of Pennsylvania. We can use this website to post messages to let neighbors know to keep an eye out for each other. If someone hears of an incident we should share it with each other. We are also looking for block captains. |
